Warangal Urban News: The Telangana Tourism Department plans to organise a First kite festival in Warangal district on January 17th, 2017, at Arts College grounds at Subedari here. Tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet to have an extended Sankranti this year.
In a move that is expected to give a major fillip to tourism promotion, the State Government which organised kite festival in Hyderabad last year also added two more destinations – Warangal and Yadadri – this year for the fete with an aim to promote tourism in the region.
Warangal Urban District Collector Amrapali Kata said participants from 31 countries were expected to take part in the event and eleven national-level delegates would also attend the festival.
Students from various educational institutions would be invited to witness the mega event being held for the first time in the district.
Also, about 30 stalls selling handicrafts would be set up as part of the festival.
District Tourism Officer M. Shivaji termed it a prestigious event being held in the district and it would help attract tourists in a big way. Last year, over 1,000 foreign tourists visited the district to have a glimpse of heritage monuments and temples while 79 lakh domestic tourists visited several tourist attractions.
